Martin Lawrence

Known for his over the top, broad physical humor and colorful characters, Martin Lawrence redefined the comedy landscape. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Lawrence initially pursued boxing as ateen, but when a teacher encouraged him to attend an open mic night, a star was born. A stint starring on What’s Happening Now!! led to his TV big break as host of Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam on HBO. And Lawrence’s popular self-titled sitcom Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997, helped to launch his movie career. His hit parade of film comedies includes Bad Boys, Big Momma House, Black Knight and Wild Hogs.
