James Clyburn

Since 1993, Democrat James Clyburn has been serving in the House of Representatives for the 6th District of South Carolina. A prominent figure of the Civil Rights era — he marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — Clyburn was arrested a number of times for his activism, and it was during one of those incarcerations that he met his wife, Emily. Clyburn is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the leadership liaison to the Appropriations Committee, as well as one of the Democratic Caucus' primary liaisons to the Obama White House.
